There are a lot of options when it comes to replacing your furnace and your air conditioning. Depending on your home, how old your equipment is, what kind of equipment you want, whether you want to do both ac and heat at the same time, or just one.
How Long Does HVAC Equipment Last?
Typically, a furnace will last about 15 to 20 years, whereas an air conditioning unit can last about 15 or so years. Many customers will replace all of their HVAC equipment at the same time if they are about the same age so that they can get it over within one felt swoop.
However, replacing this equipment can be a big investment, so we do see many customers replace the older unit, first giving them time to save up to replace the other unit.
Either way you choose is fine, and it all depends on what you want and your budget.
The Average Cost of Replacing Your HVAC Equipment
The average home in Northeast Ohio will have a 70,000 BTU furnace with about two and a half tons of air. This home will likely have a 13 SEER air conditioning unit too. Both the furnace and ac are geared toward the mid-efficiency level with the furnace is a little more costly than the ac to run. This is because we use our heat more than our air here in Ohio.
- Cost of Air Conditioning Unit: About $3,200
- Cost of Furnace: About $1,900
Of course, these are just estimates for an average home; to really nail down the number, we would have to talk with you about what your house needs and what you want out of your equipment.
