The HVAC industry has been working towards creating energy-efficient units from air conditioners to furnaces, hot water heaters, and more. Over the last decade or so, they have really come a long way in terms of making this goal a reality.
Why is AC Efficiency Important?
Not only does an energy-efficient air conditioner help protect the planet and our ozone, but it can also help you save money on your monthly energy bills, especially in those hot summer months.
What is SEER?
SEER or seasonal energy efficiency ratio is a measurement to show how energy efficient your equipment is. The higher the number, the less energy it uses. Therefore, an AC unit with a SEER rating of 16 is going to be more energy-efficient than that of a 13 SEER rating.
Many years ago, the standard SEER for an AC unit was 10 SEER – you can’t even buy a 10 SEER AC anymore. Now the standard is 13, and that is just in Ohio. The SEER requirements can change state by state because different locations will require different AC usage.
