Is My Air Conditioner Big Enough?
A common issue many homeowners face is cooling their entire home. In the summer, when the heat is almost unbearable, you might find it hard to heat the second floor of your home, or one end of your home is cool, but the other is not. The common misconception is that your AC unit is not big enough to cool your entire home. However, that is not always the case.
Not a Capacity Problem, but an Airflow Problem
All homes are different, and as such, they require different solutions to these types of problems. We often have customers come to us and say they can’t cool their entire home, and they think the solution is to invest in a larger unit.
Sometimes, a larger unit is the answer, but more after than not, the issue is with airflow and not capacity. If the thermostat is being satisfied in one room, then it will think that its job is done and turn off. The solution would be to improve the airflow into those rooms that aren’t cooling.
There are a few options to remedy this, such as mini splits and ductwork repairs. Again, it all depends on the unique situation in your home.
Issues with Large AC Units
There are some problems that can arise from compensating with a larger AC unit- increased humidity, unnecessarily large utility bills, and more.
